Burushaski Orthography and Keyboard
Burushaski orthography encompasses the spelling and punctuation of the Burushaski language. This particular orthography has been proposed and agreed upon by representatives of all three varieties of Burushaski of Hunza, Yasin and Nagar. The unique characters of Burushaski, mostly retro-flexes and diacritic vowels have been explained in this document.
Burushaski Girminas is latin/Roman based keyboard developed for Burusho Maʰraka , and it is available for free.
Typing characters with Burushaski Girminas Keyboard (Desktop, Laptop)Please download the Burushaski Girminas for
your desktop or laptop and follow the following chart to learn
the Burushaski Keyboard and the key combination. For diacritic vowels with tilde, there is only one rule -- on your keyboard press tilde (~) followed by your desired vowel. The tilde is used for nasalized vowels in Burushaski in very limited situations.
For diacritic vowels with accute (◌́) just press Comma (,) followed by required vowels.
For diacritic long vowels instead of using macron (◌̄) just double the vowels.
Burushaski Roman Orthography recommendation is to double the vowels. Please follow the key combinations for the extra Burushaski characters. All accented letters will be the output of comma + the required letters, and all the dot characters will be the output of dot + consonants.
For capitalization of the characters, use /Shif Key/ and then input the required key combinations with the same rule above. The rest of the alphabets are same as English..
