Nəxʷsƛ̓ay̓əmúcən Keyboard Help

This keyboard is designed for the Nəxʷsƛ̓ay̓əmúcən (Klallam) language of the BC Coast region of Canada.

If square boxes are displayed instead of characters when using this keyboard (and in the keyboard layouts below), please read our troubleshooting guide.

Desktop layout

This desktop keyboard is based on the original KlallamU keyboard by Tim Montler.

  • The image above shows the letters of Nəxʷsƛ̓ay̓əmúcən that have been assigned to individual keys. The original English value of the keys can still be typed by holding the Right-Alt key (Win) or Option key (Mac)
    • ŋ is typed with the g key
    • g is typed with the Right-Alt+g (Win) or Option+g (Mac)
  • The glottalized barred lambda ƛ̕ is typed u i
    • If you wish to type the English letters "ui", type u then Right-Alt+i (Win) or Option+i (Mac).
    • To type "fruit", type Right-Alt+f Right-Alt+r u Right-Alt+i t
  • To type the glottal accent, type the base character first, followed by the d key (no space in between).
    • q̕ is typed q then d
  • To type acccented vowels, type the Semicolon key ; first, followed by the base vowel (no space in between).

  • The following letters are typed by typing the Semicolon key ; first, followed by another key.
